Working hard in Reception

We have been very busy in Ash class these last couple of weeks! Take a look at what we've been up to…

First of all I would like to apologise for our lack of photos in previous weeks. We have been having problems with cameras but we now have a working class camera and will try our best to remember to use it!
We have been learning about more and less/fewer in maths. We have been practising our counting skills, comparing amounts and playing number games.
In Literacy, we have been exploring the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We sequenced the story to make a story map which we used to retell the story. We also had lots of fun reenacting the story in groups. Some children were even brave enough to act it out in front of the class!
As our class dinosaurs always love hearing new stories, we decided to change the characters to make our own version of the story. The children created a new story map and had lots of fun telling their own versions to their friends (and the dinosaurs enjoyed listening in too). The new stories included Goldilocks and the Three Zombies, Goldilocks and the Three Tigers and Goldilocks and the Three Snakes.
Last week, we were learning about our sense of taste so we had a tasting session. Many of the children were very brave to taste new foods but they were very dubious about passionfruit!! Those that tried it seemed to enjoy it but for many it just looked too weird! We described each taste and discussed which part of our tongue was helping us to taste it.
This weekend, it's the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch so we have been looking out for different types of birds around the school grounds. The children also made birdfeeders out of Cheerios. I hope you have all hung them up in your gardens! The birds certainly liked pecking at the leftover Cheerios we scattered outside so I hope you get some feathered visitors to your gardens. Do let us know what sorts of birds you see.
Have a lovely weekend!
