What a day we had on World Book Day!

The sun was shining and World Book Day had come round once again!

Pupils had been asked to come to school dressed as a book character from a book they knew and this year was a definite move away from super heroes and princesses to more identifiable book characters! Some of the costumes were very elaborate, some were extremely effective and some were brave!!

The day started with a whole school assembly where we could admire all the costumes and we learned all about how to create a character’s emotions through illustration. Jessica and Adria Meserve, who are both children’s illustrators, explained how the facial features are so important when creating characters and we all saw how characters can change just by changing one feature, like the eye brows! It was fascinating. They then worked with all key stage 1 classes on making glove and sock puppets with lots of different features and accessories!

Throughout the day all classes looked at different literature and discussed their favourite books. It really was a day steeped in story telling.

The children have all been given a quiz to try to match the member of staff to their favourite book when they were a child! These have to be returned to Mrs Mackilligan who will award the prizes!

Good Luck!
