This half term in Science, Year 3 are learning about Rocks and Soils. For science week, we decided to make our own erupting volcanoes. We spent a lesson creating the volcano from a cardboard box, an empty bottle and paper mache (newspaper and glue). Once our volcano was dry we were able to paint them. Today we talked about the science involved and predicted what would happen. We added vinegar to bicarbonate of soda and waited for the chemical reaction. Unfortunately, not all of our eruptions were a success, but we talked about why this might have happened. The children had a great time making their volcanoes and learnt lots in the process.
