Race for Life Family Event

Dear Parents,

Following the success of the event in 2017, William Ransom School will again be holding our very own ‘Race for Life’ event on Friday 12th July to raise money to support the work of Cancer Research UK. We are keen to support this charity, since cancer has touched the lives of so many in the school community. We are equally keen to encourage the children to be active, since increased activity levels not only have great health benefits, but have also been shown to impact positively on academic work as well as social and mental well-being.

This year, we are inviting families to join in the event. There will be a short warm up, followed by the opportunity to walk/jog/run a distance of between 1 and 3 kilometres around the school field. Following the run, there will be fun activities on the playground to complete with your child.

All children will be taking part, whether or not they are joined by any family members, and all children will receive a medal, regardless of the distance completed.

We are asking for a donation of £1 per child and for each adult taking part, although all donations will be gratefully received. Please send money in on the day. Unfortunately, in anticipation of large numbers, we will have to limit participation to two family members, in addition to the school child.

Timings are as follows:

Oak: 9:00-9:45 Ash: 9:20-10.05 Hazel: 9:40-10.25 Holly:10.00-10.45 Pine: 10:35-11.20 Cedar: 10.55-11.40 Maple: 11:15-12.00 Beech:1:20-2.05 Willow: 1:40-2.25 Cherry 2:00-2:45 Chestnut: 2:20-3:05

Please be aware that taking part in any physical activity, if you are injured or suffering from illness, can be detrimental to your health and therefore we would advise you do not participate if this is the case.

Unfortunately, with the large numbers of children and adults involved, we will not be able to accommodate parents/other family members staying on the school premises outside of the times given for their child’s class. This means that parents won’t be able to stay at school between two sessions, if your children are taking part at different times.

Thank you, in advance, for your support with this.
