Information from Mrs Driver

After half term the whole school will be embarking upon Talk for Writing to encourage and support the writing we are doing in school. This will involve us in having weekly ‘Talk Topics’. These topics are not intended to link to curriculum subjects they are to encourage children to develop opinions and to learn how to articulate their thoughts. We will be sending home a separate ‘Information for Parents’ leaflet about this after half term and hope you will join us in supporting all our children in their ‘talk for writing’.

I am sure you will all be sorry to learn that Miss Khela will be leaving us at the end of the year in July. She has taken up a post at Fairfield Park Lower School where she will form part of a much larger team with a wide range of opportunities. Miss Khela has been with us for four years and has been a great addition to our team. She has met great success with the netball this year and she will be missed by us all.

I am pleased to tell you that we have appointed Mr. Perry Maranian as our new key stage 1 teacher and he will come into school before the end of the term so that the children all get to know him. I am sure you will join me in welcoming Mr Maranian to our school.

On Sunday we set off on our annual School Journey with our Year 6 pupils. Once again we are heading to North Wales from Sunday 18th May – Friday 23rd May. Therefore I will not be available in school. If you have any queries during the week, please contact Mrs Brown. Keep an eye on the school website as we hope to be able to keep you all up to date with what we are all doing in Snowdonia!

Once we return after half term, we reach the final half term of the year with lots to pack into those weeks. I hope you are keeping the 7th June free as it is the School Fete. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we do rely on support from everyone! The rota will be up in the entrance foyer so please sign up to help out on one of the stalls. The following week on 15th June Mrs Light, Miss Ayliffe and Dain Sears will be taking our Lacrosse team to the National Finals in Hatfield. This is another fantastic achievement and we wish them well.

For those of you receiving remission for music fees, if you still require this next year, please reapply by contacting The Education Benefits team at the CSC via howcanwehelp@hertfordshire.gov.uk from 11th June.

If you qualify for free school meals this will be renewed automatically, letters will be sent to those who no longer qualify. Please remember that even though there will be universal free school meals for all KS1 pupils from September 2014, if you qualify for free school meals, it is important that you still apply.

Let’s hope that the sun shines for us next week and I hope you all have a lovely half term break when it finally gets here. We look forward to seeing all the children back at school on Monday 2nd June 2014.

Yours sincerely

Mary Driver
