HGS Science Fair

Isobel, Hannah, Alex and Evan from 5/6M took part in the 2012 Hitchin Girls’ School Science Fair where they had to research and then present on an aspect of ‘Science in Sport’. They chose ‘prosthetics’ and whether or not athletes with prosthetic limbs should be allowed to compete in the Olympics. They worked very hard to research the topic thoroughly, and even managed to get hold of a prosthetic lower leg of the type worn by the South African, Oscar Pistorius thanks to the kind support of Ossur UK Ltd who are a leading manufacturer of this type of limb.

They gave their presentation several times during the evening to judges, other adults and pupils, and each time were word perfect and presented a very well written balanced argument. As the judges deliberated, everyone was treated to a fabulous display of chemistry from Mr Jackson, Head of Science at HGS.

The group came second overall and each received an iTunes voucher. The following day, the group delivered their talk to the rest of the school.

Have a look at some photographs from the fair which were taken by Alex from 5/6D who came along as chief supporter and photographer!
