Cross Country at Princess Helena

On Monday 29th September William Ransom was invited by Princess Helena College to take part in their cross country event. The children in years 5 and 6 were invited to ‘trials’ in school where they ran a mile which was 5 times around our school field. Every child who ‘tried out’ managed to run the distance which was fantastic and a team was selected to represent the school.

The team were invited into the old hall while we waited for all competitors to arrive. It turned out that these schools were St. Hilda’s, St. Joseph’s in the Park and Breachwood Green.

It was a ‘real’ cross country course. Up and down the slopes round the out buildings down paths next to the fields and back up to the finish line.

Catherine was first girl back with Georgia in 8th place, Oryana in 10th and Bella in 13th. These four girls gave us a total score of 32 points. The boys with Callum, Edward, Toby and Sam in the top four for William Ransom, amassed 42 points from their positions. Everyone finished the race in a good time.

Back in the hall the children all received medals and certificates of participation. The only individual to receive a shield was Catherine for her 1st in the girl’s race. The girls’ team won a trophy for 3rd position and the boys team gained second position overall.

With all the celebrations over the children received their ‘goodie bag’ and went to the refectory for refreshments.

What a great experience for all involved and a big thank you once again to all of the parents who gave lifts and stayed to support.
