Boy’s football team lose in the semi-final on penalties

William Ransom boy's football team took part in the ESFA tournament at Whitehill tonight. The eight Hitchin teams were divided into two groups. In  group two,  Wilshere Dacre failed to turn up so only   Ickleford and Highover played William Ransom.

The first game against Highover was 0-0 at  half time  but a goal from Ben, who was in fact playing in defence tonight, gave William Ransom a 1-0 win. After a few minutes break William Ransom went on to play Ickleford. This was a hard fought game which ended 0-0, so a toal of 4 points to William Ransom. Unfortunately Ickleford scored two goals against Highover so won the group stage on goal difference.

William Ransom went through as runners-up of group 2 to play Whitehill the winners of group 1.It was a really exciting game with both teams playing an excellent passing game. At the end of full time it was 0-0, at the end of 6 minutes it was still 0-0 and so the dreaded penalties. With Tommy our substitute goal keeper due to John being ill, the boys lined up for the penalties.Tyler and Ben both scored and so did the first Whitehill pair. Edward and Archie both missed but so did the next two Whitehill players. It then went to 'sudden death'. Oliver stepped up but sent it wide and Whitehill put a hard shot past Tommy to give them the victory.

Whitehill went on to play Our Lady in the final and lost 1-0.

Well done boys and especially to Oliver S who stepped up to play at short notice as John and Feranmi were sick today. Thanks to parents for their support and Dain for his contiued encouragement and coaching of the team.
