The first event of the new year tends to be the Indoor Athletics heats and this year was no exception. The team, selected from Year 5 and Year 6 pupils, has had a couple of practice sessions and has also done some of the events in PE lessons. We were competing against five other schools from Letchworth and Hitchin at Fernhill School.
It is always very chaotic, and very loud, and with the field events for one team taking place whilst the track events happen for the other team, it is always very difficult to gauge how we are doing. The pupils were coming back from their events happy and we could see that we were winning some of the track events.
When the results were read out at the end, we listened carefully to see where we had come. Sixth, fifth and fourth were read out and we hadn’t been mentioned. They then announced that the next two schools had tied and so they had finished joint second. We were not one of those and so the pupils started celebrating the fact that we had won! Jean-Claude went up to collect our certificate and it was then time for team photos!
Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to all the parents who came along to support, including Carys in Year 1 who was our lucky mascot!
