Another blog from Wales!

Today has been an amazing day of contrasts! After our usual morning routine and collecting up packed lunches and sorting out rucksacks we set off up into the hills behind the Plas. Our destination  was the village of Croesor where our walk started. The weather was shrouded in mist and it meant that we had to keep close together as a group. It was a tough climb up the valley and our usual wonderful views were non-existent.

It was quite eerie up on the ridge where we couldn’t even see our hands in front of our faces and it was quite spooky exploring the miner’s village in the mist. It gave us a good idea of how it must have been for the miner’s living there 150 years ago!

The walk down the other side of the mountain is always a challenge on the slate but everyone managed it with few accidents!! We caught the train at TanyGrisiau which took us back to TanyBwlch. From the station we climbed down to the lake and spent an idyllic hour painting the landscape. By this time the sun had broken through the cloud and the suncream was being heavily applied!

From the lake we walked through the woodlands back to The Plas in the sunshine and once back there was time for a quick shower before supper.

This evening there was time for a treasure hunt and some slate painting which appealed to everyone and after all the exertion once again there were lots of tired faces at bedtime.

The week is flying by so quickly that in no time at all we will be packing up to come home!
