Year 5 girls take part in St. Chris' Recyled Fashion Show

On Saturday 28th February nine Year 5 girls took part in St. Christopher’s Recycled Fashion Show. This is the third year we have entered as a school and this is the most entries we’ve ever had.

They had to design and make an outfit made from recycled items and model it on the catwalk in front of a huge audience and a panel of five judges. The theme this year was 100 years, as St. Chris’ are celebrating their centenary, and this needed to be incorporated in to their designs. Our entries ranged from outfits that resembled fashion from 1915 to what we might be wearing in 2115. And from Aurora, who fell asleep for 100 years, to a pilot's outfit to represent the 100 years that have passed since the first passenger flight took off.

The girls started designing and making their outfits back in October, adding a little bit each week until February half term, so they spent at least twelve hours making their creations. Then before they knew it the day of the show had arrived and we all had to meet at St. Chris’ at 3.30pm to register. Next it was time for a rehearsal, leaving a couple of hours to get ready in their outfits. By 7pm they were lining up and the show began shortly after.

After the catwalk show all contestants had to wait in the sports hall while the judges made their decisions. Out of thirty entries, three of our girls made it into the final, and one costume has gone to the Letchworth Arts Centre for the exhibition. Sadly we didn’t have an overall winner this year but the girls had a fantastic evening strutting their stuff down the catwalk.

Will you be entering next year?
