Mission Statement and School Aims

Mission Statement
'The William Ransom School aims to provide all its pupils with the highest possible educational opportunities. We believe that this is the entitlement of every child and that it is realised at this School within a structured, disciplined, caring and safe environment where expectations are high.'

These are our school aims:

Our aim is that every child will develop according to their individual potential in all areas of the curriculum. We aim to teach the children to read with understanding and find pleasure in books; to use language (written and oral) in a competent and sensitive manner; to deal with mathematical concepts with understanding; to develop and value creativity and sporting ability; and to grow into pleasant, well-adjusted members of the community.
We expect all children to work hard and give their best effort in every area of the curriculum.

The five outcomes of Every Child Matters, ‘Being Healthy,’ ‘Staying safe,’ ‘Enjoying and Achieving,’ ‘Making a Positive Contribution’ and ‘Achieving Economic Well Being’ are used to promote the following aims of the school;

• to help all the children in our care to develop to their full potential as individuals emotionally, socially, academically and physically.
• to help children to develop lively and enquiring minds and the ability to question and research, to discuss rationally and to apply themselves to the tasks and demands of School.
• to create a secure and supportive environment within which the children themselves and their learning will flourish.
• to instil in the children self-confidence, self-discipline, skills and knowledge, which will prepare them to take full advantage of the opportunities in the next stage of their schooling and in their adult life, whilst developing creativity and encouraging participation in sports and the performing arts.
• to create a happy caring and safe environment where children can enjoy the learning process in an atmosphere of excitement, creativity, enthusiasm and support that takes account of preferred learning and teaching styles and equips them to be life-long learners.
• to promote friendship, co-operation and mutual understanding amongst all members of the school community.
• to foster a strong partnership between parents and the school for the benefit of the pupils.
• to offer a broad based and balanced curriculum, accessible and challenging to all, in accordance with our own guidelines and those of the National Curriculum.
• to have high expectations of all pupils in all aspects of school life.
• to help children to communicate effectively using written and oral skills and to read with understanding and enjoyment.
• to help children to be numerate and to be confident in their understanding of mathematical concepts.
• to give equal opportunities to all children to enjoy success in their achievements.
• to create an environment which is stimulating and artistically, factually and aesthetically rich.
• to help the children to realise the pleasure which can be derived from hard work and commitment.
• to help children to grow into independent, pleasant, well-adjusted and tolerant members of the community.
• to develop the school as a learning organisation that embraces the school community and the wider community outside William Ransom Primary School.

Our school motto is ‘Work and Respect.’ We set high expectations for learning, behaviour, play and social development because we believe that excellence is achieved when children are motivated to attain the highest standards of which they are capable, in a climate of caring support.
