Information from Mrs Driver

We have now reached the end of an exhausting term and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support you have offered this term. There have been lots of great trips and events and hopefully the children have been enthused and excited by their learning.

Charity collections
The School performances of their various Christmas Shows went very well and I am pleased to be able to say that we raised a total of £842.61 through the charity collections. This is an amazing amount and I thank you all for your generosity. This will be sent off to the NSPCC and Stand by Me which the children and their teachers chose as the charities they would like to support.

INSET and Occasional Days next November
Some parents have enquired about INSET and Occasional Days next November. We have provisionally booked the 27th and 30thNovember 2020 as days for the school to close. These dates have to be provisional in case the government or local authority set INSET dates for us with a new initiative.

Uniform stocktake
Please use the Christmas break as an ideal time to stocktake on your child’suniform. Please ensure all main items are named, we still have a number of jumpers in lost property, all un-named! The uniform shop will be held on 13th January, 3rd February and 2nd March. This is also a great time to have children’s hair cut. Please follow guidelines on the website. We would also ask that no girls return wearing earrings. This follows guidance from Herts County Council Health & Safety, who also agree that earrings can be removed 6 weeks after piercing.

Christmas Lunch
We had a wonderful Christmas Lunch yesterday and everyone looked great in their Christmas tops! We managed to raise £255.76 for Save the Children so thank you to everyone who took part.

SPA update
The SPA have had another highly successful term, raising over £8000! This includes the recent sale of Christmas Puddings and Christmas items at the Christmas Concerts. Thank you to everyone who has supported their work this term. Next event is a Family Bingo Night on Friday 7th February; look out for information at the start of next term. Following this there will be another SPA Event on Friday 20th March 2020. Let us know what you would like us to arrange for this ‘adult’ event!

How to apply for a mainstream nursery place in Hitchin for 2020/2021
Although our school does not have its’ own nursery, we wanted to make you aware of how to apply for amainstream nursery place in Hitchin, in the academic year children turn 4. Parents have the choice of using their free hours of nursery entitlement between private providers or local authority nurseries. Parents need to approach individual nurseries about applying for a place.

In order to make the process easier for parents, all the schools in the Hitchin area with a nursery class, have aligned their application timeline. Although parents still need to apply to the nurseries individually, the process and time frame to do so is the same for all the settings.

The timeline below shows the application timeline for all nurseries in the Hitchin area linked to mainstream schools (Codicote, Highbury, Highover, Offley, Oughton, Purwell, St Andrews and Strathmore Schools). Please note that York Road Nursery has a separate timeline.

This timeline applies to nursery places for the settings listed above for admission in 2020/21 (children who turn 4 between 1/9/20-31/8/21).

Autumn 2019
Hitchin local authority nurseries linked to mainstream schools will make nursery admission information available on their websites.

Monday 3rd February 2020
Applications open via school’s websites for Hitchin local authoritynurseries linked to mainstream schools (online applications preferred).

Friday 13th March 2020
Applications close for Hitchin local authority nurseries linked to mainstream schools.

Friday 24th April 2020
Offers made to parents (via the same method as application was made).

Friday 1st May 2020
Deadline for parents to accept/reject places. Continued interest offers will be made after this date.

All places are funded by County, have a qualified nursery teacher and provide the opportunity for children to experience being part of a school.

As a reminder the children will be returning to school on Tuesday 7th January 2020. Peripatetic music lessons will start at in the first 2 weeks: Brass & Violin the first week, Recorder and Guitar the second week. The children will be told when any extra-curricular activities will start.

Please remember if there is anything you would like to discuss to make an appointment to come in and see me!

Thank you for all your good wishes at the start of this festive Season and on behalf of everyone at William Ransom, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Yours sincerely
Mary Driver
