Another busy week for Maple

It's been a busy few weeks at school for us all, with the excitement of World Book Day last week and Science week this week.

The children looked fantastic in their costumes for World Book Day last Thursday. They all had the opportunity to talk about their book and character, as well as describing their favourite part of their chosen story.

We had a great day enjoying all things books - completing quizzes, word searches and making book marks.

We finished the day by tuning into the BBC live lesson and the children completed their activity booklets alongside thousands of other children across the country. The children were inspired by the authors involved and have since written some amazing stories to enter into the Rotary writing competition.

This week we have been enjoying Science week. Yesterday the children took part in a forensic workshop and had to use their detective skills to work out 'whodunnit'. We then went back to class to investigate our own fingerprints.

Continuing Science week, the children have taken part in a number of other experiments, including work using static electricity to make objects move - inspired by Matilda and her magical powers. Our theme for Science week has been ‘journeys’ celebrating 35 years of the Eurotunnel.

After a rather disappointing cancelled trip to the Botanic Gardens today due to 50mph winds, the children completed their scavenger hunt on the school grounds instead. They were able to find an interesting collection of natural objects and then designed a 'monster' plant. We also enjoyed an indoor picnic with our packed lunches!

I think you'll agree it's been a busy few weeks and I look forward to seeing the children in something red for Comic Relief on Friday for even more fun learning!
