Information from Mrs Driver

Suddenly we have reached the end of another term and the Easter break is upon us!
It has been another exciting term in school with lots of different things happening and all of the children have been involved in a wide range of experiences. There have been an amazing number of different activities going on and I am extremely grateful to the staff who give up their own time to organise and run these activities.

Reading books
We have been extremely fortunate in having a group of Mums who come into school on a rota basis and help us by changing reading books each day. This takes about 30 minutes and if we have enough offers of help it only needs to be done once a week! We also need some people to come and help prepare the fruit for the key stage 1 classes. Again, this is done on a rota basis and only takes a few minutes each morning.
These are things that just help daily school life run more smoothly! I hope you can help us!

Fund raising
Thank you for supporting the different campaigns the School Council have encouraged us to get involved in. I am delighted to say we raised £268.97 for Sports Relief and £243.75 for Brain Tumour Research from wearing hats today! I think these show how community minded our children are!

School music
Well done to all the children who took part in the school music on Wednesday evening. It was lovely to hear them all play. During the summer term there will demonstration sessions for those wishing to start music lessons in September.

The SPA
Thank you to the SPA for their work this term. We have had some very successful events, culminating in the Curry & Quiz evening which was a huge success! I think everyone who came had a great time and we raised an amazing amount of money. Thanks to Milisha for the curry and Mrs Bassindale for the quiz!
We are now looking ahead to the summer term events. Save the date – 11th May for our evening of Prosecco, Pigs and Puddings! Don’t know what it is? Come along and find out! Details will follow after Easter!
Another date to save is Saturday 9th June 2018 for our Annual Summer Fete! We are hoping for a beautiful sunny day to raise lots of money and to have lots of fun!
We are looking for someone who might be interested in helping us with the Plant Stall. You do not need to have green fingers but an interest in all things horticultural would be an advantage! If you think you might be able to help come and see us in the office!

Uniform
Thinking ahead to the summer term and the wonderful weather we are bound to experience (!) could I give you another reminder about naming all items of uniform? With the warmer weather, we always have a multitude of red jumpers left on the field and if they aren’t named we have no hope of identifying them! If you are buying new school shoes for the summer, please ensure they are sensible sandals. The children should not wear shoes without a strap and closed in sandals are much safer for playtimes. Also the holidays are an ideal time to have hair cut! It might be fashionable to have hair over their eyes but children do struggle to read the screens if their hair is too long! If you have any uniform queries please contact the school.

Please be aware of the summer uniform requirements:

Girls:
Red & white checked summer dress
School uniform white shirt (no checks)
Grey trousers or skirts
Red jumper / cardigan
No slip-on shoes or open-toed sandals for safety reasons.

Boys:
Grey trousers / shorts (not combat shorts)
White shirt and tie
Red Jumper

We are a traditional school and as such do not want to have fashion accessories as part of our school uniform! Hair bands should be plain red.

I am extremely grateful to the parents who run the uniform shop for us. During the summer term the uniform shop will be held on 14th May, 11th June and 2nd July. The last orders for uniform will be on 15th June 2018. Please do not place orders after this date and it would help enormously if uniform orders are only placed at uniform shop times.

Inhalers
With the summer term approaching, we are mindful of the inhalers we have in school for various children. Does your child need an inhaler? If so, do we have one in school? Have you signed a form at the school office? Is the inhaler still in date? Is it named? Are there any other factors we need to know about? Please let us know.

The Orbit
You will have received your copy of The Orbit this week from our School Magazine Club. It never ceases to amaze me what a great magazine this is and this edition is no exception. Well done to all the pupils involved in writing this edition and a special thank you to Mrs Stephenson and Mrs Thorn for their hard work!

School kits
Now that many of the sporting activities for the winter season are over we would like to ensure that all school kits are returned to school. We are concerned about the number of kits that go missing and the state in which they are returned. School kits need to be rinsed through and left to dry. Please do not tumble dry any school kits as they will shrink. I would hope that pupils are proud to be asked to represent the school and would therefore look after any school kit they are given. Please return any outstanding kit on the first day of term and we would ask that you look around for anything extra you might have at home.

Parking
Please DO NOT park in the school car park unless you have been given a parking permit. We do not have enough spaces and it is too dangerous to have people reversing out whilst children are crossing the car park. If this causes you a problem, please come and see me.

Please remember if you have any concerns about your child at school, do not hesitate to come in to see me. I hope you all have a lovely break over the next two weeks and we look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 17th April 2018.

Yours sincerely
Mary Driver
