National Champions 2016!!

Yes! We are the National Champions for Lacrosse in 2016!

What an amazing day we had today at the Lacrosse National Finals in Sheffield. All of the team made their way to Sheffield yesterday, as did Mrs Light and Mrs Driver and many of us stayed at The Premier Inn in the centre of the city. It meant we were all bright and fresh for an exciting day as we met for breakfast! By 9.30 all the team had gathered at the English Institute for Sport and the team were registered for their games!

They made a nervous start, losing their first game 6 – 5 but actually this was just what they needed! It made them more determined to play their best and they went on to win all their other group matches, ending the group round in first place by 1 goal difference!

It was a nervous lunch break whilst we waited to see our draw for the championship round and we went on to play teams from all over England, Scotland and Wales.

The team played magnificently, chipping away at any advantage the opposition seemed to get and they won their quarter final quite decisively! Their semi – final was against the school that had won the Nationals for the last 3 years. We were seen as the under-dogs but our players were just amazing and won through to the final! By now our blood pressure was through the roof and heart rates were faster that the best games of lacrosse!

After a short break, the team stepped up to the mark and they played magnificently. I believe the final score was 7 – 5 but in all honesty, it was hard to keep track with the game moving so quickly and all of us spectators jumping up and down like mad things!

Today was one of those days when I have the best job in the world! I was so proud of every single one of our eight players. They all played their part and were an absolute credit to the school. Thanks have to go to Mrs Light for her calm, composed approach to the whole day. Together with Dain Seers she has coached the team all season; we had no outside coaches this year. This victory is all theirs!

Thank you also to all the parents and extended families who came along to support us. They certainly helped to keep me calm with cups of tea and a steady hand! Sheffield was a long drive, but I think everyone felt it was worth while. Thank you for the support on Twitter and for all the good wishes the children received! William Ransom – National Champions – How great does that sound?
