Headteacher's Blog from Wales 1

Well here I am again, sitting in a beautiful mansion house late in the evening with 39 year 6 pupils as asleep somewhere above me!

Yes, once again I am on school journey in Snowdonia and so far the weather has been amazing!

We left school at 9.15 yesterday and it was a long and tiring journey to North Wales. We stopped for lunch at Blists Hill, part of the Ironbridge complex of museums and we all really got a feel for what it must have been like living in Victorian Britain.

Our home for the week is Plas Tan-y-Bwlch and we are lucky to have found such an ideal place. The children are all in rooms of 2, 3, 4 or 5 and all have settled well into their rooms. All were asleep by 10.45pm which might have been due to the teachers out in the corridors!

We all needed a good night’s sleep as today was our first real challenge – to climb on Snowdon. We were not heading for the top but we wanted to climb the three lakes up to the highest lake in Wales – and we did it!! For some it was a challenge, for others they had to dig deep to keep going and keep going they did! Everyone made it as high as were going and all of us felt a real sense of achievement! In some ways the climb down was harder, we certainly felt it in our knees and thighs!

For parents who have children away with us, you would all have been very proud! There were no moans and groans about getting tired and they smiled all the way up and down. It was a really fantastic day!

  • First stop on the mountain!

  • How much rain do you think falls in Wales each year?

  • Learning all about the copper miners!

  • Have we really got to climb right up there?

  • Looking for quartz

  • Listening to the story of Bedd Gelert

  • What a great view of Snowdon!
